When Cartoons Came Alive in India

Facebook post 4

Remember the 90s when Cartoon Network was hip?

Remember the times when you could not wait for the summer vacations to start so that you could go to our nearest book store or library and get those comics to make afternoons a little less long and boring?

Imagine if your favourite childhood characters came to life one day. Ever tried to picture them in real life scenarios that we face on a daily basis? At Paintcollar, we went one step ahead and illustrated them out for you!

Our aim was to highlight Indian stereotypes, jobs and iconic attractions and re-imagine our favourite characters in those situations.

The idea was to observe the intricate details of Indian life and imagine popular cultural icons reacting to them.

Team Paintcollar explored iconic landmarks, brands and scenarios we see everyday and then worked on erasing the lines between cartoon and real life.

Here’s a quick list of the characters in this series: Courage the Cowardly Dog, Bugs Bunny, Garfield, King Kong, Calvin and Hobbes, Ninja Turtles, Robin (from the Batman Series) and The Incredible Hulk.

We chose the characters based on their ability to fit the proposed scenarios, such as the Ninja Turtles in a pizza outlet or King Kong on Qutub Minar (let us call it old India’s Empire State Building). The Incredible Hulk was placed in a scenario in Mumbai where we thought his Hulk Smash attack would fit the best while the horrible state of the road renders Robin’s speeder useless!
